Why glass and window frames have such a big effect
A home loses a large share of its heat through windows and frames — especially older homes with single glazing or ordinary double glazing. Switching to HR++ or HR+++ glass can reduce heat loss through the glass by more than 60%. Combined with well-insulating frames, the effect is even greater.
HR++ vs HR+++ for sustainability
For sustainability projects we usually recommend HR+++ glass if the budget allows. The U-value of HR+++ (around 0.5–0.7 W/m²K) is considerably better than HR++ (about 1.1 W/m²K). Especially if you're replacing the frames anyway, the extra cost of triple glazing is relatively low compared with the long-term added value.
