What does replacing glass cost? Prices and factors explained

One of the first questions about replacing glass is: what does it actually cost? The price of glass replacement can't be summed up in a single number — it depends on several factors. Below we explain what they are and what you can roughly expect.

Factors that determine the price

  • Type of glass — HR++ is cheaper than HR+++ (triple glazing). Soundproof or laminated glass costs more than standard insulating glass.
  • Size of the pane — Larger panes cost more. A 60×80 cm pane is significantly cheaper than a 120×220 cm pane.
  • Shape — Rectangular glass is cheaper than triangular, curved or otherwise specially shaped glass.
  • Accessibility — Glass on the ground floor is easier to install than glass at great height, where a forklift or aerial platform is needed.
  • Existing frames — Glass fitted into existing frames in good condition is cheaper than a combination with frame replacement.

Rough price estimates

As a rough guide for standard HR++ glass replacement in existing frames (including installation and sealant):

  • Small window (up to about 0.5 m²): from about €100–€180
  • Medium-sized window (0.5–1.5 m²): about €150–€350
  • Large window or garden door (1.5–3 m²): about €250–€600

These are guide prices — the actual price depends on your situation. HR+++ glass, soundproof glass or safety glass cost more.

Combined with window frames

Did you know that replacing glass and frames at the same time is often more cost-efficient? You pay for installation once, the finish fits perfectly and everything is technically at the same level.
